I saw a work truck the other day that had a sign saying that the vehicle’s speed was limited to 67 mph. While I found that oddly specific, I thought it would be fun to have an official-looking sticker on my 03 Odyssey that said “This vehicle limited to 118 mph” or some other ridiculous number.

I’m calling some BS on that speed claim.  Not that it matters, dad will buy justice, just like what happens in Vancouver when the devilspawn of residency purchasing CCP members flit around in ill-gotten supercars, get nabbed, get a slap on the wrist.

There was a similarly incredible (as in not credible) claim in my area not long ago:

I want a car that can do nearly 200 mph to avoid the problem of someone else misusing it.

Maybe I just haven’t ring-a-ding-ding’d anything far enough when the wheels slipped on ice (DO NOT DO THIS! Near frictionless 200mph/2mph to suddenly having lots of traction on asphalt would be very very bad).

At least he was responsible enough to pull over I guess.

Though if the choppa can’t even hit 200kmh then the Explorers and Tauri had no chance. Can’t outrun Motorola, but at 300+ you could sure as hell give it a run for it’s money.

... or die tryin’

I mean, it’s what the gun registered. The gun certainly could be miscalibrated or something, but I don’t think that’s any more plausible than the car having been tuned/having its limiter removed. Possibly environmental help as well in terms of wind and grade (though I’ll admit my memory of the QEW was that it was largely featureless).

Should be easy to verify if they need to, though frankly I doubt the penalties for going 155 are any better than 191.

Car in the article, at least as far as I can tell, appears to be bone stock.

I’d like to see the calibration on the unit, and there’s no mention how the OPP caught him, either . I’d have little issue believing 155, but the difference between that and 192 are more than 37 miles apart.

And the penalties for both are no doubt dependent on one’s financial status.

By the same token, I really doubt the gun was off by 37mph, that would be a pretty huge error, even as a percentage.

As for catching him, I’m guessing the kid saw the lights and stopped, knowing that daddy’s lawyers would be able to take care of speeding ticket easily, but that I high speed chase might be a bigger issue.

Which I suspect is what you were getting at in your second point, since I don’t think Canada has Finish-style day fines.

Yeah, who knows? Just saying it’s within the realm of possibility.

Maybe a combined closing rate?  Or something related to that.

In terms of money buying justice on the road , Canada is no different from the US.

Maybe 1% chance :)

The car in the video is also a W205, perp car is a W204, not sure if that would make a huge difference as both would need mods to hit that speed, but the older car probably isn’t more aerodynamic than the newer version.

Exactly. A BS claim means the gun is incorrect.. But the gun is incorrect by dozens of mph? That’s not any more believable to me than the very possible idea that the car is a sleeper.

Several on the FP article have stated that car is easily capable of cracking 200 with some tuning.

Yeah, I was thinking the one in the article was older.

It appears to be an early ‘teens coupe, probably not even a 507.

It’ll be interesting to see if a lawyer can make short work of this one.  Reminds me of the ridiculous claim of a Hyundai Excel doing 115.

I LOVE those vehicles, especially when they are on SH45/SH130.
